Conquering Himeji castle by noon

Waking up after all the walking sure was difficult. We had to leave our Okayama hotel, the town, the prefecture and its comfortable climate. After dragging our feet, had breakfast, we had arranged for a taqbin pickup from the hotel reception so that our luggages be sent to our Kyoto hotel, where we had a booking 2 days later.

Liberated from four wheel cases, we hopped on the shinkansen to Himeji and its white castle, to enjoy the sunny weather and climb the glorious embodiment of martial architecture. I forgot it was such a long walk from the station, but the glimpse of it gave us hope as it grew bigger on the horizon.

All that white against the blue sky made it feel like summer. As always, I marveled at the sloped stone wall, at the gravel gutters, and as we climbed sinuously to reach the dungeon (where there is a small shrine) and overview the area, I admired the viewpoints and the defenses of the castle.

At the end of the long boulevard was the train station

At the bottom of the castle, after passing by the stone and area for seppuku, we still got some time to appreciate the chrysanthemum displays, even in the forms of bonsai.

But soon we had to grab lunch on the way back tot he station, in a small second floor restaurant overlooking the main street. And off we hopped on the shinkansen to Kobe, where more shopping and relief awaited.
