Taking off for Seoul

Packing relatively light was a challenge, because I had to anticipate all types of weather: cool in the mountains, hot by the sea, and unknown in the cities. I wasn't planning on doing laundry as well but basic washing up in hotels, so everything needed to dry quickly. And everything fitted in a big purple cabin luggage that I dragged around.

The flight from Geneva was on Thursday early morning, with a rather long lay over in Paris (3h). And God knows that airport is bleak. After a few hours wondering about and even grabbing breakfast, I found the boarding gate for Seoul in a bran new terminal E. My fellow passengers were 95% Asians, no surprise there. I was getting used to standing out again, and looking around like a lost chicken.

The good surprise was when I boarded the plane and they upgraded me to first class. I had 2 huge seats to myself and only half a dozen passengers to share the cabin with. I was enjoying the trip already, especially as it was an overnight flight and I needed to rest before landing at 7:30am in Seoul for a full day of adventures. To put me to sleep, I tried to memorize some useful sentences in the phrasebook, but the seat was too comfy and I drifted off to sleep somewhere close to the arctic pole...

...to wake up with a beautiful sunrise over south China and the view of the Korean peninsula...flying over islands, and Incheon area...in my dazed state I could not even think of taking pictures...:(

Memorable plane soundtrack:
Chopin's Piano Concerto 2 (2nd movement)

Quote from the journal entry:
"Viewed from the universe, where am I bound, single insignificant bundle of matter flying off from West to East? Above the clouds, above the unknown unexplored lands, the sound of each ivory note piercing the tension accumulated over the days. A few hours of non existence, until landing and facing a new world."

It must have been the champagne I drank in first class..
